Common Era CE is one of the notation systems for the world’s most widely used calendar era. The year-numbering system used by the Gregorian calendar is used throughout the world today, and is an international standard for civil calendars. The expression has been traced back to , when it first appeared in a book by Johannes Kepler as the Latin annus aerae nostrae vulgaris , and to in English as ” Vulgar [b] Era”. The term “Common Era” can be found in English as early as , and became more widely used in the midth century by Jewish religious scholars. In the later 20th century, the use of CE and BCE was popularized in academic and scientific publications as a culturally neutral term. It is also used by some authors and publishers who wish to emphasize sensitivity to non-Christians by not explicitly referencing Jesus as ” Christ ” and Dominus “Lord” through use of the abbreviation [c] “AD”. The year numbering system used with Common Era notation was devised by the Christian monk Dionysius Exiguus in the year to replace the Era of Martyrs system, because he did not wish to continue the memory of a tyrant who persecuted Christians. This way of numbering years became more widespread in Europe with its use by Bede in England in Bede also introduced the practice of dating years before what he supposed was the year of birth of Jesus, and the practice of not using a year zero.

Online dating expert Julie Spira said online dating has evolved as Internet usage has, referencing a Pew Research Study that found 59 percent of Americans believe online dating is now a good way to meet. Julie Spira has seen the online dating industry morph from the underground to the mainstream, becoming the most popular tool for singles to meet in the process. Spira is an online dating expert, digital matchmaker and social media strategist with more than 25 years of senior level management in broadcasting, technology, telecom and the Internet.
As Internet dating continues to advance through smartphone apps, it has never been easier to meet someone new in the cyber world. There are some factors to consider, Spira said, when entering the online community. Spira answered a few questions regarding some of these issues for the Tribune in hopes of educating the public about the advantages and potential pitfalls of online dating in the 21st century. Have you seen its perception shift during that time and if so, in what ways?

It is estimated that the first personal ad was placed around the end of the 17th century and its popularity really took off in the early 18th century. However this does not mean it was a socially acceptable way of looking for a spouse. The first woman to ever place a personal ad was Helen Morrison. She was even sent to an asylum by the government for four weeks, for it was believed she was mentally unstable. A century later society had changed and placing a personal ad had become acknowledged as a reasonably normal way to get in touch with potential partners.

Dear Annie: I am a year-old man who needs help. Recently, I met a guy via the internet. We hit it off and have a lot in common. In addition, he lives in the same state that I do. I’ve seen pictures of him, so I know what he looks like. He even gave me his phone number. I want to call him so we can stay in contact.
The problem is that I’m on the same phone plan as my parents, and they are the type of people who prefer face-to-face meetings and are wary of meeting people over the internet. How do I get them to understand that not all people you meet on the internet are bad people? Dear Different Generation: You are not going to get your parents to change their minds about the internet; and, to be quite honest, their fears have some merit. There are some really bad people online.

You wanted to dip your toe into the online dating pool. But then, perhaps, you met someone, or your dates were all duds. The fun was over. You deleted the apps from your phone, hoping never to hear from another graphic designer in Brooklyn or developer in Oakland again. But contrary to popular belief, deleting Tinder does not mean singletons in the surrounding area stop seeing your profile.
At least three Quartz reporters, including this one, have deleted a dating app only to realize their profile was still on it when someone else came across it and pointed it out.

The social network is planning to introduce a new video calling feature that will allow users of its Facebook Dating service to connect and video call over Messenger, as an alternative to going on a real-world date. This sort of feature is much in demand amid the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced people to stay home and practice social distancing. For the time being, government lockdowns have limited the places where online daters could meet up for their first date. Restaurants, malls, bars and other retail establishments are closed across regions impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
But even when those restrictions lift, many online dating app users will be wary of meeting up with strangers for those first-time, getting-to-know-you dates. Video chat offers a safer option to explore potential connections with their matches. When the new Facebook Dating feature goes live, online daters will be able to invite a match to a virtual date. The recipient can either choose to accept or decline the offer via a pop-up that appears. If they accept, the Facebook Dating users will be connected in a video chat powered by Facebook Messenger in order to get to know one another.

August 24, – AM. The August primary elections produced sobering results for all Kansas politicians and, for the matter, all Kansans. Sometimes important elections, like the presidential contest of , easily display their importance. Others, however, may seem quite ordinary, even as they produce or reflect substantial change.
The recent primary falls into this category, largely because it hastens a powerful trend in Kansas politics — the growing national-style partisanship that reduces our capacity to address serious problems. This year, right-wing Republican state senate candidates won six primary races, knocking off such notable Republican moderates as John Skubal Overland Park , Randy Hardy Salina , and Ed Berger Hutchinson , all who won their seats in and who faced well-funded, highly conservative opponents.
What are the key dates in the timeline of Roman history? The story was that the twins Romulus and Remus, sons of the god Mars, were left to die by being put in a basket, set adrift on the river Tiber. The makeshift vessel eventually came ashore at the future site of Rome. Here, the babies were suckled by a she-wolf, then raised by a shepherd.
